Palacios Represents American Red Cross on Telemundo
The holiday season brings with it increased risks for residential fires due to spikes in space heater use and Christmas lights, but having a working smoke alarm can make a life-saving difference.
As a Public Information Officer for the American Red Cross Serving Central Texas, Pierpont Account Supervisor Sylvester Palacios recently appeared on Telemundo Austin to talk about the Red Cross’ recent Sound the Alarm event. Alongside several volunteers, Palacios installed free smoke alarms in Austin homes and educated residents on the importance of maintaining a working smoke alarm and having a fire evacuation plan.
Working smoke alarms in a home cut the risk of death by half and having an escape plan further improves the odds of survival. Since launching its Home Fire Campaign in 2014, the Red Cross has saved at least 285 lives and installed more than one million free smoke alarms.
Pierponters across Texas have many hobbies and talents and are encouraged to put them to positive use, especially when serving the community. The Red Cross is just one of the many community organizations Pierponters have served over the last 30 years.
